The purpose of blepharoplasty is to revitalize a tired look by removing excess skin and fatty tissue (bags) from the upper and lower eyelids.
If there is a drop of the eyelid (blepharoptosis) then after a thorough check of the etiology it can be simultaneously restored with blepharoplasty.
As far as blepharoplasty is concerned, the operation will improve the appearance and help the self-confidence of those who choose it to deal with the bag under the eyelids. However, this operation by itself cannot lead to the ideal appearance or to the change of the facial structure.
But be careful, blepharoplasty is not the right method to eliminate dark circles under the eyes, for “crow’s feet” or other facial wrinkles. These often require other procedures such as laser resurfacing, injectable implants or a brow lift.
The results of blepharoplasty last about 5-7 years. Plastic surgery on the lower eyelids rarely needs to be repeated. Of course the eyes still age after this procedure. If the upper eyelids become loose again, then either a second blepharoplasty or a forehead lift is recommended.
