Dr. Stam (Stamatis Sapountzis) is Board Certified Plastic Surgeon based in Thessaloniki, Greece.
After graduating from the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Dr. Stam trained in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery in Greece. In 2010 he moved in S.Korea and worked as Microsurgical – Breast Fellow next to Prof. Heo Chan Yeong in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, which is one the most prestigious hospitals in S. Korea and one of the few full digital hospitals in the world.
In 2011 he continued his training in Taiwan next to Prof. Hung Chi Chen, in China Medical University Hospital in Taichung. During his 2 years stay, he enhanced his experience in advanced reconstructive microsurgery and performed more than 100 free flaps for head and neck reconstruction, breast, trunk and lower limb reconstruction. He showed special interest in Lymphedema Surgery using microsurgical techniques and he is one of the few surgeons in the world specialized in Vascularized Lymph Node Transfer.
After 3 years in Asia, he moved in UK, as Microsurgical – Breast Fellow in Queen Victoria Hospital where he gained significant experience in in breast reconstruction using autologous tissue.
From 2013 he is International Board of Director of NPO “Givemefive” with head quarter in Aurangabad (India), providing surgical assistance in economically underprivileged tribal population in Asia.
Dr. Stam has published more 40 studies in International Scientific Journals about reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in cooperation with Universities in Brazil and USA, and attended several meetings in USA, UK, Taiwan, Korea and other places in the world.
He is PhD candidate of Plastic Surgery at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, studying the effect of tissue glue in microvascular anastomosis.
